H. Shadows formed in Hamburg in the late 1990s, a trio with Arne "Arni" Wieggers on vocals, Chris "CJ" Gatterdam on guitar, and Torsten "Tosso" Müller on drums. Their first album, "Der Doktrinator," came out in 2000 with the title track that became one of their best-known songs. They worked with other German punk figures like Jens Rachut and Slime.
Their music mixed melodic punk with lyrics that often addressed social issues. Beyond "Der Doktrinator," songs like "Start Dancing" showed their range. They released several albums through the 2000s, including "Aufbruch" in 2003 and "Sturm und Drang" in 2007.
Some of their material drew criticism, particularly a song about police brutality. They kept playing and putting out records, with "Horizont" arriving in 2011.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
