Archive material and source history

Habib Koité grew up in Koutiala, a village in Mali where he learned traditional music from griots. He plays the ngoni, a stringed instrument common in Malian music, and formed his band Bamada in 1988. The group includes percussionist Moussa Sissoko and guitarist Mama Sissoko.

Their 1995 debut album 'Muso Ko' brought them international attention, followed by albums like 'Baro' in 1998 and 'Fôli' in 2001. One of their songs is 'Din Din Wo (Little Child)'. Koité has also addressed social issues in Mali through his music, as on the 2012 album 'Afriki'.

Later albums include 'Soô' in 2014 and 'Tata' in 2019. The band's lineup has featured musicians like Lassana Diabaté on bass, Drissa Koité on kora, and Adama Dramé on balafon.
