Archive material and source history
Hakushaku to Yousei formed in 2007 with vocalist Chisato, guitarist Shuhei, bassist Hiroto, and drummer Toshiya. They worked in a space between gothic rock and visual kei, with some symphonic touches. In 2010, their debut album 'Infection' included 'Feeling,' which became the opening theme for the anime 'Kaichou wa Maid-sama!' That song helped bring them a wider audience.
Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for dark or provocative themes, which the band addressed by saying they were exploring complex emotions. They kept releasing albums through the 2010s, like 'Achromatic' in 2012 and 'Elysium' in 2014. The lineup shifted over time, Hiroto left in 2012, replaced by Kiyoshi on bass, and Toshiya retired in 2019, with Kota taking over on drums.
