An Austin band that kept making records through lineup changes and personal struggles.
For a good sense of their sound, try 'Halo' from the debut or 'Safe' from later on. Both have that unvarnished, melodic pull the band never lost.
They never broke huge, but songs like 'Halo' and 'Safe' have a plainspoken honesty that sticks with you. The 2003 debut 'The Invisible Lines' set a tone for their whole run, melodic, a little frayed, and grounded in real feeling. Even later albums like 2016's 'In the Dark' held onto that same directness.
They started in Austin in the early 2000s with Chris Carrabba on vocals and guitar. After 'The Invisible Lines' in 2003, they kept putting out records like 'Cast Iron Soul' and 'This Time Around', even through a short break around 2006. The lineup shifted over the years, but they were still releasing albums into the 2010s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
