Background notes

Archive material and source history

Happy End formed in 1970 with Haruomi Hosono on bass and vocals, Eiichi Ohtaki on guitar and vocals, Shigeru Suzuki on keyboards and vocals, and Takashi Matsumoto on drums and vocals. Their sound drew from Western folk-rock and Brazilian bossa nova, a quieter alternative to the louder rock and pop that was common in Japan at the time.

Their self-titled debut album came out in 1970 and included the song 'Kaze Wo Atsumete.' The band broke up in 1972, and each member went on to work separately in music.
