A Philadelphia band whose music deals directly with difficult psychological territory.
For a sense of what they do, try "I Can't Stand Myself" or "Corrupting My Better Half." Both get right to the point.
Harley Poe's songs like "I Can't Stand Myself" and "Evil People" touch on depression and self-harm without softening the edges. They've found an audience among people who recognize those feelings in themselves. Their debut album "The Curse of Black Lightning" came out in 2011, and they've kept writing about this territory ever since.
The band formed in Philadelphia in 2009 around frontman Joe Whiteford. They've released several albums including "Past Life Regression," "The Man on the Moon," and "Serotonin" with the current lineup of Whiteford, Chad Williams, Michael Burris, and Dayal Patterson.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
