Harpo came together in San Francisco in the late 1960s, with Bob Hite handling vocals. Their first album was called 'The Masterpieces' and came out in 1970. They put out several more records after that, including 'Mosquito' in 1971 and 'Whatever Happened to Harpo?' the following year.
Some of their better-known songs include 'Moviestar,' 'Horoscope,' and 'Motorcycle Mama.' The band's lineup included guitarist John Wilson, keyboardist Pete Sears, and drummer Ron Holtz, with harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite also appearing on their records.
They were part of that San Francisco scene when it was still humming, playing a mix of blues and rock that felt pretty natural for the time. The group kept recording through the mid-1970s, with albums like 'Home' in 1975 and 'Encore' in 1976.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
