Harrie Jekkers was born in Breda in 1951. He started playing in bands in the late 1960s, including one called The Outsiders. In 1980, his solo debut 'Ik Hou Van Mij' gave him a hit with its title track, which topped the Dutch charts.
His songs sometimes drew criticism for their lyrics, like 'Opzij' which commented on the AIDS crisis. He kept recording through the 1980s and 1990s, putting out albums such as 'De Nieuwe Maan' and 'Ik Ben Wat Ik Ben'. Other songs in his catalog include ''t Hek', '19 Juni', and 'Brief van een Haagse bijstandsmoeder aan Hare Majesteit'.
Jekkers released his last studio album 'In De Luwte' in 2011. He died in 2018 at age 67.
