Hazard formed in Mazatlán, Mexico in the late 1990s with Joel Lizárraga on vocals, Christian García on bass, and Manuel Calderón on drums. They released their debut album 'Sueños Perdidos' in 2001, followed by 'Porque Te Amo' in 2003. The title track from that second album became their most recognizable song.
Their lineup eventually expanded to include Ángel Angulo on accordion and Iván Álvarez on trumpet. They put out several more albums through the 2000s, including 'Contigo o Sin Ti' in 2005 and 'Amor Ciego' in 2010.
In 2009, the band faced legal questions about whether some of their songs borrowed too heavily from other material. They also had a public disagreement with Los Tigres del Norte around that time.
