Heathen formed in San Francisco in 1984, originally called Plague. The early lineup included vocalist David White, guitarists Lee Altus and Doug Piercy, bassist Randy Laire, and drummer Darren Minter. They signed with Enigma Records and put out their debut album 'Breaking the Silence' in 1987, which gave the band its first real exposure.
After their second album 'Victims of Deception' in 1991, the group went through some quiet years with lineup changes and label issues. They came back together in 2001 with a different vocalist, John Gallagher, and started releasing albums again, including 'The Evolution of Chaos' in 2004 and another album with the same title in 2010.
Songs like 'Breaking the Silence,' 'Death By Hanging,' and 'Dying Season' show the kind of thrash metal Heathen has been making for decades. The current lineup has Gallagher on vocals, Altus and Kragen Lum on guitars, Jason Mirza on bass, and Minter still on drums.
