Her debut single "No One Is Gonna Love You Better" came out in 2011, and she followed it with an album called Day One in 2016. Songs like "And It Hurts" and "Begging to You" show her leaning into straightforward emotional territory.

She's worked with India.Arie and producer 9th Wonder, and has played venues like the Apollo Theater in New York. In 2018 she had a legal dispute with her former label over creative control, which ended with her gaining ownership of her music.

Later albums include Sanctuary from 2019 and Songs for the Broken from 2022. She performs with a band that has included drummer Reggie McKinney, bassist Chris Thomas, guitarist Terrence Brewer, and keyboardist Khari Simmons.
