Background notes

Archive material and source history

Héctor Marcó was born in Andalusia in 1957, and the region's flamenco, copla, and folk traditions shaped his music. He released his debut album 'Nocturnal' in the early 1980s, but it was the 1985 album 'Esta Noche de Luna' that brought him wider attention. The title track became his signature song, a ballad that connected with listeners across Spain.

He went on to record several more albums, including 'Escrito en la Piel' and 'De Amor y Desamor'. Other songs like 'Gol argentino' and 'Tú el cielo y tú' also became part of his repertoire. In the mid-1990s, he faced a copyright lawsuit over a melody, which was eventually settled.

His band, La Orquesta de Héctor Marcó, included musicians like guitarist Paco Cepero and keyboardist José Antonio Romero. Marcó's voice and his way with a romantic lyric kept his music in circulation long after those early records.
