He wrote songs like "Macurero," which became well-known for its depiction of a sugarcane worker's life. Other songs included "Nenena" and "Un Recado a Simón." He recorded albums such as "El Baqueano" in 1944, "Los Indios" in 1946, and "Macurero" in 1948.
The work he did with Los Indios and his own compositions kept his name familiar in Uruguayan music circles for years after.
