Archive material and source history
Heldom Nhanhado was born in 1974 in Luanda, Angola. He started singing and playing guitar early, drawing from traditional Angolan rhythms along with Cape Verdean and Brazilian music.
His debut album 'Eu Chorei' came out in 2005. The title track became a kind of anthem about loss, and it helped bring him wider attention. Other songs like 'Graciete Huvo' and 'Socorro' followed.
He works with a small band that includes Pedro Coquenão on bass, Joãozinho on guitar, and Héllder 'Maestro' Manhanga on drums. They've put out several albums since that first one, including 'Sussurro do Vento' in 2008 and 'Sentimento' in 2020.
