A London trio that started with open mics and kept writing through lineup changes.
If you're new to Helen Austin, start with "Hello" and "Nobody Knows." They're good examples of what the band does well.
Helen Austin's songs have that lived-in quality of someone who's been playing to small rooms for years. You can hear it in the way "Hello" unfolds, or how "Nobody Knows" carries its weight without getting heavy. They're not trying to reinvent anything, just writing what sticks.
They started as a four-piece playing London coffee shops around 2016, putting out the EP Whispers in the Dark. James Blackwood left in 2019, but they kept going as a trio and released the album Echoes in 2021.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
