Helstar formed in Houston in 1982, started by guitarist Larry Barragan and vocalist James Rivera. They put out their first album, 'Remnants of War,' in 1985. A few years later they released 'Burning Star' and 'A Distant Thunder,' then 'Nosferatu' in 1989.

That 'Nosferatu' album included 'Fall of Dominion,' a song that became one of their better-known tracks. They also recorded 'Baptized in Blood' and 'Angel of Death' around that time.

In the early '90s they had a legal dispute with their label Combat Records over royalties and the release of 'The King of Hell.' The band kept recording afterward, putting out albums like 'The Black Vale' in 2000 and 'Shadows of the Past' in 2008.
