His 2006 debut album, 'Exu 7 Porteiras,' gave him a wider audience. The title track became a hit, though its lyrics about a Yoruba deity also drew criticism from some conservative religious groups. He kept working with a band that included musicians like Marcos Escafura on bass and Thiago da Serrinha on percussion.
After that first album, he put out records like 'Omens' in 2009 and 'Rituals' in 2012. The sound stayed rooted in those Afro-Brazilian rhythms, with later albums including 'Origins' and 'Roots'.
