Herdeiros

Herdeiros formed in Lisbon around 1977, with Pedro Ayres Magalhães on vocals, Rui Costa on guitar, João Gil on bass, and Fernando Cunha on drums. They came up playing shows around the city's underground scene, building a following through live performances before they had much recorded material.

Their debut album 'Mudança de Vida' arrived in 1982. The single 'Secular' from that record became something of an anthem, particularly among listeners who identified with its anti-establishment stance. The song's blunt lyrics about government and religion drew criticism from conservative groups at the time, and the band faced some censorship.

They kept recording through the 1980s and into the 1990s, putting out albums like 'Mau Tempo no Canal' in 1983, 'A Praça da Alegria' in 1986, and 'O Homem do Trapézio Voador' in 1995. Other songs in their catalog include 'A queda de Adão' and 'A Serviço do Senhor'.
