Archive material and source history
Hermani Ribeiro formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1997, with Hermani Ribeiro on lead vocals and guitar and Marcos Vinícius on bass. Their sound pulled from samba and reggae, but kept things acoustic and direct. In 2002 they released their debut album, also called 'Diz Que Me Esqueceu,' and the title track became their most recognizable song.
That song, 'Diz Que Me Esqueceu,' is a straightforward ballad about unrequited love. It connected with listeners and gave the band its first real break. They followed it with albums like 'Ponto Cego' in 2005 and 'Jorge' in 2009.
In 2008, Marcos Vinícius left the band and was replaced by bassist Roby Arguelles. The change caused some friction with fans who were attached to the original lineup, but the group kept working.
