The brothers Gonzalo and Enrique Carrión started performing together in 1943 in Huancayo, Peru. They worked with traditional Andean folk songs, with Gonzalo singing lead and Enrique playing guitar. Their early performances built a following around Peru.
In 1955 they began playing shows in other South American countries, including Argentina, Chile, and Colombia. Their music drew from Andean folklore but also incorporated boleros and waltzes. Songs like "Lágrimas de Cristal" and "Lanza Tus Penas Al Viento" became well-known for their harmonies and emotional lyrics about love and nostalgia.
Enrique Carrión died in 1989. Gonzalo continued performing with the group after that.
