Hero Dishonest came out of New York City in the mid-2000s, a band built around frontman Anton "Tony" Dishonest. Their debut single in 2008, "Sometimes I'm Just One Big Cock," got them immediate attention for its raw lyrics and melody, though many radio stations wouldn't touch it. The song's bluntness about sexual themes made the band a regular target for critics who called it offensive, while some listeners heard it as satire.
They kept putting out music that leaned into dark, provocative territory, with songs like "Clone" and "180 Degrees" following. The band's lineup included guitarist "Psycho" Pete, bassist "Mad Dog" Mike, and drummer "Animal" Andy. Their material often dealt with sex, violence, and what they saw as the darker parts of human nature, which didn't make them many friends in more conventional music circles.
Venue bans and legal challenges over obscenity accusations became part of their story, but they toured anyway, leaning into their outsider status.
