Heroes Like Villains formed in Dallas in 2008 with Brett Kramer on vocals, James DiDonato and Scott Gee on guitars, Bobby Bishop on bass, and Josh Golden on drums. They spent their early years touring and working on their sound without much outside help.
In 2013, they released their first album, "Burn the Boats." The single "Shut Up & Dance" from that record got attention quickly, but some listeners took issue with its lyrics. The band said the song was meant as a metaphor, not a literal statement.
They put out a second album called "The Shadows and the Light" in 2015. That record showed them trying different things musically, moving a bit beyond their initial rock approach.
