Heróis Nacionais

Heróis Nacionais started playing in Portugal around 1978, a few years after the revolution. They were a rock band when a lot of Portuguese music leaned toward fado or folk. Early on, they had trouble getting label support and mostly played bars and clubs, building a following that way. Their lyrics often touched on social and political themes, which connected with younger listeners at the time.

In 1982, they put out their first album, 'Fogo de Palha.' The title track became a hit, helping push them into wider recognition. That album had a raw, guitar-driven sound and lyrics that felt urgent to many people. After that, they kept releasing records through the 1980s, like 'Espelho Mágico' in 1984 and 'Pedra Filosofal' in 1985.

Their music shifted a bit over the next few years, picking up some punk and new wave touches, and even nodding to Portuguese folk at times. But they stayed focused on writing songs with a social edge. Another track people remember is 'Bons Tempos,' which came out later in their run.
