Hey Mercedes

Hey Mercedes formed in Chicago in 1993 with Robert Lowe on vocals and guitar, Kevin Garcia on bass, and Rob Ahlers on drums. They released their second album 'Los Feliz' in 2000, which included the song 'A-List Actress' that developed a cult following. The band faced a legal dispute with their record label around that time, which slowed their output for a while.

They kept making records after that, putting out albums like 'The Weekend' in 2003, 'Five' in 2006, and 'Every Night Fire Works' in 2010. Their songs often featured layered guitar arrangements and Lowe's vocals over lyrics dealing with personal themes. Other tracks like 'Eleven To Your Seven' and 'Every Turn' show their approach to melodic indie rock.

At different points, they worked with musicians outside their core lineup, including violinist Kristin Hersh from Throwing Muses and keyboardist John McEntire of Tortoise. Their music maintained a consistent sound through those lineup changes and the years between releases.
