The Hi-Fives formed in Philadelphia in 1993, with Anthony Grant on lead vocals and songwriting, Bob Whitfield, Jr. on keyboards, Marcus Beets on bass, and Dana Bryant on drums. Their debut album came out in 1995, sharing its name with the single 'Never Should've Let You Go.'
In 1996, Marcus Beets was diagnosed with leukemia, which led the band to take a break for several years. They returned with albums like 'Return of the Hi-Fives' in 1997 and 'Straight Ahead' in 2000.
They put out another album called 'Legacy' in 2008. The group won a Soul Train Award for Best New Artist back in 1995.
