Hi Tec Hip Hop came out of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s with a lineup that included Nego B on vocals, Gil on keyboards, Taí handling vocals and percussion, Vini on bass, and Paulinho on drums. Their sound was raw and energetic, drawing from the realities of life in Brazil's favelas.
They released several albums, including 'A Noite é Nossa' in 1997, 'Procurando a Saída' in 1999, 'Ritmo de Favela' in 2002, and 'Baile de Favela' in 2007. The track 'A Noite é Nossa' became particularly well-known, with lyrics by Nego B that spoke to the experiences of their community.
Some critics accused the group of glorifying crime in their music, but they kept making the kind of funk that reflected where they came from. Their beats had an influence on what came after them in Brazilian music.
