Hiância was a Brazilian alternative band formed by André Abujamra on vocals and guitar, Mauro Sta. Cecília on bass, and Marcelo Wood on drums. They released their first album in 1987, followed by records like 'Os Restos do Assassino' in 1989 and 'Via Láctea' in 1991.
Their song 'Alexander Supertramp' became their most recognizable track, with lyrics drawing from Jack Kerouac's 'On the Road.' They also recorded other songs including 'Avenida,' 'Boneca de Pano,' and 'Cruzeiro do Sul.'
In 1987, a fire destroyed their studio during the recording of their debut album. They rebuilt and continued working. Later, in the early 1990s, they faced accusations of plagiarizing 'Alexander Supertramp' from a Brazilian folk musician, which they denied.
Hiância kept releasing albums through the 1990s and early 2000s, with titles like 'Terra Vermelha,' 'Terra Fértil,' and 'O Lar das Almas.'
