Highway (Colombia)

Highway formed in Bogotá in 1988 with guitarist Carlos Reyes Luna, bassist Alejandro Restrepo, drummer Mauricio Castro, and vocalist Juan Carlos Coronel. They started playing small venues around the city, building a local following before recording their first album.

Their 1994 debut album 'Ave Del Camino' gave them a national hit with the title track. The song became something of an anthem in Colombia, though some critics at the time noted similarities to work by other artists. Highway denied any plagiarism claims and kept working.

They released three more albums through 2003, including 'Autopista' in 1996 and 'La Casa Del Sol' in 1999. Songs like 'Esfera De La Oscuridad' and 'Viajero Sin Tiempo' showed their continued interest in rock with Spanish lyrics. The band hasn't been active in recent years, but their early material still gets played on Colombian rock stations.
