Holiv formed in 2017 around brothers Sam and William Lawrence, with Chris Holmes on drums. Their debut album 'Romantic Waste' came out the following year, anchored by the title track that became their most recognizable song.
After Holmes left the band in 2019, the Lawrence brothers continued as a duo. They put out EPs like 'All Days Come' in 2020 and 'Lost Lights' in 2021, followed by a second album called 'Sleeping in the Rain' in 2022.
At one point there were accusations that the melody for 'Romantic Waste' had been taken from another artist, which the band denied. They described the song as coming from their own experiences.
