Hollerado formed in Ottawa in 2006 around Menno Versteeg, with Jake Seward and Chris Murphy in the early lineup. Their first album, 'Record in a Bag,' came out in 2009 and established their indie rock approach. Songs like 'Fake Drugs' and 'Eloise' showed their knack for catchy melodies and clever lyrics.
They signed with Warner Music Canada in 2013 and released 'White Paint' that same year, which drew some criticism about moving toward the mainstream. Their 2015 album 'Lightening Bug' took a more experimental turn. The band went on hiatus in 2017 while Versteeg dealt with mental health issues.
Hollerado returned in 2020 with 'Retaliation Road,' their fourth album, which was noted for its more reflective tone. Tracks like 'Reno Chunk' and 'Age Of Communication' continued their pattern of energetic, guitar-driven songs with a wry edge.
