A California band that broke through with 'The Reason' and kept making rock records.
If you only know 'The Reason,' check out 'Crawling In The Dark' to hear where they came from. It's all there in those two songs.
Hoobastank's name stuck because they wrote songs that felt big and direct in the early 2000s. 'The Reason' became a radio staple, but earlier tracks like 'Crawling In The Dark' showed their grunge and alternative roots. They weren't just a one-hit act; they kept putting out albums like 'Everything You Know Is Wrong' and 'Fight or Flight' long after that peak.
They started in 1994 when Doug Robb and Dan Estrin met at a music store in Agoura Hills. The lineup shifted over the years, with Josh Freese joining on drums in 2006, but they kept recording through the 2010s. Their sound moved from the raw mix of their early days to the polished rock of 'The Reason' and beyond.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
