Hora formed in Moscow around 2016, with Elena Rodina and Max Ryabinin meeting at a music festival before being joined by Alexei Volkov. They started playing in underground clubs, drawing from influences like Depeche Mode and Massive Attack. Their sound came together with Elena on vocals and synthesizers, Max handling production, and Alexei adding bass and synthesizers.
In 2017, the single "Frozen Past" became their breakthrough track. It's a slow, atmospheric piece with Elena's vocals floating over synths and bass, dealing with themes of love and loss. That song led to their first album, "Ethereal Shores," in 2019, which continued in a similar ambient, introspective vein.
They followed up with "Digital Dreamscapes" in 2022. Other songs in their catalog include "Inner Universe," "Killing Culture," and "Modulate God -deep Mix." Their lyrics sometimes drew debate for being somber or pessimistic, but they kept building a following with their moody electronic sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
