Hora Zulu formed in the 1970s, bringing together musicians from Colombia, Cuba, and Africa. Their sound mixed salsa, cumbia, and soukous with African melodies, led by vocalist Erasmo Padilla and including bassist Humberto Corredor, guitarist Jorge Bohórquez, and percussionist Alfredo Del Real. They released their debut album 'Agua de Mayo' in 1977, which became a defining track for the group.
Their music sometimes addressed social issues, with lyrics that could draw criticism, but they kept playing. After 'Agua de Mayo', they put out other albums like 'El Africano', 'Raíces', and 'Azuquita', exploring different rhythms without sticking to one style.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
