Horácio Campos was born in Santos, São Paulo in 1932. He started playing guitar early, drawing from samba and bossa nova, and was influenced by João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim.
He began professionally in the late 1950s with the band Os Cariocas. In 1962 he went solo, releasing his debut album 'Horácio Campos.' His song 'A Voz do Violão' came out in 1967 and became widely known in Brazil.
He kept recording and performing through that period.
