A British band that mixed soulful grooves with danceable pop through the 1970s.
For their most enduring track, 'You Sexy Thing' is the one. 'It Started With A Kiss' gives you a good sense of their smoother, pop-leaning side.
Hot Chocolate's sound was a specific blend of funk, soul, and disco that felt both smooth and danceable. Their 1973 hit 'Emma' went to number one in the UK, and songs like 'Every 1's A Winner' became radio staples. The band's music has outlasted its era, still getting airplay decades later.
Formed in 1969 with Errol Brown on vocals, they broke through with 'Emma' in 1973. They released 13 studio albums and had a string of successful singles through the 1970s. Brown retired from touring in 2003 and died in 2015, with Tony Connor taking over lead vocals.
