Hot Leg came out of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the early 2000s with a straightforward indie rock sound. Their first album, Red Rag to a Bull, arrived in 2003, followed by Yeah! in 2005 and You Are Dead in 2008. Songs like 'Whichever Way You Wanna Give It' and 'Ashamed' carried the kind of guitar-driven energy that worked well in live settings.
Eddie Argos handled vocals and guitar, with Jon Cater on guitar, Alun Woodward on bass, and Dave Fearn on drums. The band's lyrics tended to look at relationships and everyday situations without much fuss. In 2004, they got tangled in a legal dispute over the rights to 'Ashamed,' which eventually settled.
Hot Leg kept playing shows and putting out records through that decade. The album Yeah! found some traction in indie circles. They never really broke through to a wider audience, but they maintained a steady presence with a sound that didn't try to reinvent what guitar bands were doing at the time.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
