Hot Skull formed in 1978, with Chris Cutler as their frontman. The band came together after some members had been part of Henry Cow, an avant-garde collective known for experimental work. They wanted something more structured than what that group offered.
Their music was hard to categorize, mixing jazz, rock, and electronic elements. Their debut album was self-titled, and they later put out records like "No Music," "The Peel Sessions," and "Live in Berlin." One of their songs was called "Jhonny."
Cutler had outspoken views on politics and the music industry that drew both praise and criticism. The lineup changed over time, with musicians like Fred Frith, Tom Cora, and Peter Blegvad playing in the band at various points.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
