Hubert Cumberdale

Hubert Cumberdale was a band active in the 1970s. They released their self-titled debut album in 1975 and followed it with 'Flash Gordon' in 1977, which featured David Bowie on vocals for the title track. Their music involved intricate arrangements and made use of synthesizers and electronic effects, which presented some technical challenges at the time.

Their 1977 album 'Flash Gordon' is what most people remember them for. The song 'Flash Gordon' became something of an anthem, tied to the era's interest in space and science fiction. David Bowie's involvement was brief, and he left the band before the album's release. They put out another album called 'Man Made' in 1979 and a compilation in 1981.

There were some accusations that the band borrowed too heavily from other musicians' work, though nothing was ever proven. They had a tendency to clash with their record label over their experimental approach. The band's lineup included Rick Wakeman on keyboards and vocals, Trevor Bolder on bass, Geoff Downes on synthesizers, and Barry Morgan on drums.
