Hubert Von Goisern

Hubert von Goisern was born in 1952 and grew up in Austria's Salzkammergut region. He started playing guitar early, influenced by both local folk traditions and artists like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. In 1979, he formed the band Alpinkatzen, which spent nearly a decade mixing alpine folk with rock before disbanding in 1988.

His solo career took off with the 1992 album 'Aufgeigen stått niederschaun,' which included 'Weit Weit Weg.' That song found an audience far beyond Austria with its spare arrangement and themes of distance and searching. Other tracks like 'Heast As Nit' and 'Heilige' became staples in his catalog.

After the success of that album, he continued recording through the 1990s and early 2000s with releases like 'Omunduntn' in 1995 and 'Trad' in 2001. His music has sometimes drawn political attention, including criticism after a 1993 appearance at a rally, though he later emphasized social justice and environmental concerns.
