Huey Lewis and the News formed in California in the early 1980s with Huey Lewis on vocals, Sean Hopper on harmonica, Chris Hayes on guitar, Johnny Colla on saxophone, Mario Cipollina on bass, and Bill Gibson on drums. Their 1983 album 'Sports' broke them through with songs like 'The Heart of Rock & Roll' and 'Pop, Lock & Drop It,' which got heavy rotation on MTV.
They followed up with 'Fore!' in 1986, which had 'Stuck with You' and 'Jacob's Ladder,' and 'Small World' in 1988 with 'Perfect World.' Lewis had to step back briefly in the late 1980s due to Meniere's disease, an inner ear condition that affected his hearing and balance.
The band put out eight studio albums total, mixing rock and pop with Lewis's vocals and the group's horns and harmonies. They kept playing shows and recording into the 2000s, though not as consistently as during their peak in the mid-80s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
