Humphrey Campbell

Humphrey Campbell was a Dutch band that formed in the early 2000s, led by a frontman with the same name. Their breakthrough came with the single "Wijs Me de Weg," which became an instant hit in the Netherlands. The band's sound mixed pop, rock, and folk elements, with lyrics that often leaned toward the introspective.

They released several albums, starting with "De Weg" in their early period. Later records like "Tweede Kamer" and "Drie" showed them experimenting with jazz, blues, and classical touches. The core lineup included guitarist Laurens Troost, bassist David Achterberg, and drummer Martijn Bosman alongside Humphrey Campbell himself.

In 2006, the band faced plagiarism allegations over their song "De Regen," though the claims were never proven. Another track, "Ik Ben Niet Bang," sparked public debate about societal norms at the time. They collaborated occasionally with other Dutch artists like Ilse DeLange and rapper Typhoon. The band disbanded in 2016.
