Hunter Valentine formed in Los Angeles in 2005, starting with guitarist Amy Vachal and bassist Laura Petracca. They were later joined by drummer Sarah Joy and vocalist Kiyomi Valentine. The band released their debut EP 'The Art of War' in 2008, followed by their first full-length album 'A Youthful Existence' in 2009.
Songs like 'Jimmy Dean' and 'Staten Island Dream Tour' show the band's straightforward punk and rock approach. They've worked as an all-female group in an industry that hasn't always been welcoming to that.
Their music doesn't try to reinvent anything, just delivers the kind of guitar-driven tracks that fit on a playlist next to 'Treadmills Of Love' or 'Break This.' They kept at it through the usual ups and downs of being in a band.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
