Hurriganes

Hurriganes formed in 1971 with Remu Aaltonen on vocals and guitar, Cisse Häkkinen on bass, and Ile Kallio on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1973 and found an audience quickly, partly because of their live shows, which were known for being loud and a little funny. They kept at it through the 1970s, putting out records that mixed straightforward rock and roll with a boogie shuffle, like on '11th St Boogie' and 'Hot Wheels'.

A song like 'He He Hey' became one of those radio staples that just stuck around. It's simple, shout-along, and perfectly captured the band's no-fuss approach. They weren't trying to reinvent anything; they were just playing rock music with a lot of energy and a wink. That directness connected with people in Finland, where they became one of the more popular homegrown rock acts of that decade.

The lineup shifted some over time, with guitarists like Albert Järvinen coming through, but the core trio of Aaltonen, Häkkinen, and Kallio was the constant for most of the band's run. They recorded steadily into the 1980s, and their catalog includes songs that range from party anthems to slower, almost bluesy tracks like 'An Awful Crime'.
