H.W.A. formed in Los Angeles around 1986, with Mike Williams on vocals and Scott Hull on guitar. Their music was part of the early grindcore scene, a style built on extreme speed and harsh vocals. Songs like "Body Snatcherz" and "Great Tazte" gave a sense of their approach.
Their debut album "Gore" came out in 1987, followed by records like "Pusmort" in 1989 and "A.D." in 1992. The band's material sometimes drew attention for its graphic themes, with "Body Snatcherz" reportedly facing radio bans in some places. Their lineup included Matt Olivo on bass and Steve Hanford on drums during those years.
They kept recording into the late 1990s and early 2000s with albums like "The Gore Appreciation Society" and "Through the Eyes of the Dead." For a certain part of the underground metal audience, their work became a reference point within the grindcore style.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
