H.Y.T. formed in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1999 with Andres Torres on lead vocals and guitar, Juan Pablo Gaviria on keyboards and vocals, and Mauricio Hernandez on bass and vocals. Their debut album, 'Decisión de Amor', came out in 2004, and the title track became a hit across Latin America, a soulful ballad that defined their early sound.
In 2007, Andres Torres had to step away from the band due to a rare autoimmune disease, but the group kept going. They returned in 2010 with Torres back for their third album, 'Amanecer', which included the song 'Te Extraño'. Their lyrics sometimes stirred things up, like with 'Amor Prohibido', which drew criticism from conservative groups for its take on a forbidden romance.
They put out four studio albums in total, including 'Punto y Coma' after their debut. The music stayed grounded in ballads and rhythms that felt personal, without much flash or drama beyond what they wrote into the songs themselves.
