I Am Alaska formed in 2007 with Brandon Fehr on vocals and guitar, Jeremy Schmidt on bass, and David Welsh on drums. Their debut album 'Ruins' came out in 2009, and its track 'Ghost' became something of a calling card for the band's atmospheric rock sound.
Over the next decade, the lineup shifted. Schmidt left in 2013, replaced by Nick Hannon on bass, and Welsh departed in 2018 with Chris Allison taking over on drums. They released several more albums, including 'Lost & Found' in 2012, 'The Violence' in 2015, and 'Bloodline' in 2018.
Fehr's past struggles with substance abuse became public in 2011, which brought some scrutiny to the band.
