I Am Baby Cakes formed in the late 2000s around singer-songwriter Kylynn Williams, guitarist and keyboardist Greg Donahue, and drummer Anthony Kucinski. Their debut single 'Cat People' came out in 2010, a track with ethereal vocals and shimmering guitars that found an audience. The song's title drew some criticism, which the band addressed by explaining it as a metaphor for human duality.
They followed with the album 'Crumbles' in 2011, then 'Venom' in 2013, which had a darker, more experimental sound. A 2015 EP called 'The Way' showed some evolution in their approach. Other songs in their catalog include 'Shirley Moats,' 'Lies,' 'The In-house Carol,' and 'The Role Play Tournament.'
Williams handled vocals, guitar, and keyboards, Donahue worked on guitar and keyboards to build atmospheric layers, and Kucinski anchored things on drums. They kept making music through that period without much compromise to their style, even when parts of it sparked debate.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
