I Can Only Imagine formed in Arizona in 1999, started by Bart Millard, Micah Canfield, and Jim Bryson. They put out their first album in 2001, which had the song "I Can Only Imagine" on it. That track did well on Christian charts and got some mainstream attention.

Jim Bryson left the band in 2005. They've released several albums since then, including "Found" in 2003, "Slow Down" in 2005, and "Awake" in 2006. More recent ones are "Roots" from 2016 and "Living Hope" from 2018.

The current lineup has Bart Millard on vocals and guitar, Micah Canfield on keys, Jonathan Weinberg on lead guitar, Jeremy Redmon on bass, and Aaron Sterling on drums.
