I Divine formed in 2007 around Jeff Leach, who wrote personal songs in his bedroom before teaming up with bassist Mike McCann and drummer Josh Roberts. Their debut album 'This Ship's Going Down' came out in 2009, with the title track drawing attention for its introspective lyrics and haunting quality.
Some critics found their music too dark, but the band kept working. They followed up with another album called 'The Storm,' which included songs like 'The Flood' and 'Blackout.' These tracks continued in a similar vein, built around melodies that stuck with listeners.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
