I Hate Myself formed in 2004, coming out of New Jersey's hardcore scene with a raw punk sound. The band's songs had long, winding titles like 'Caught In a Flood With The Captain Of The Cheerleading Squad' and 'Conversation With Dr. Seussicide,' which gave a sense of their particular emotional landscape.
Their 2005 debut was called 10 Songs, followed by Thirteen in 2006, War of the Roses in 2008, and Flowers in 2010. The track 'This Isn't the Tenka-ichi Budokai' was among their work. Chris Martin, known as CJ, handled vocals, with Jonathon Vigil on guitar and Kevin Docherty on drums as the core members.
The band didn't last long as an active unit, but their records found an audience that connected with their direct, unfiltered approach to punk.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
